SEO costs in Australia typically range from about $800 to $2,000 a month for a local tradie, $2,000 to $5,000 a month for a multi-location builder, and $3,000 to $8,000 or more for a civil contractor chasing commercial and government work. One-off audits usually cost $500 to $3,000. What you pay depends on how many services and areas you need to rank for, and how competitive they are.
This 2026 pricing guide breaks down SEO cost by business type, what should be included at each level, how capital city and regional pricing differ, and the red flags that tell you a cheap package won't deliver.

How much does SEO cost in Australia in 2026?
For construction companies and tradies, monthly SEO pricing falls into three broad bands. These ranges reflect the Australian agency market in 2026 and what we see when reviewing quotes for construction clients.
| Business type |
Typical monthly cost |
Typical scope |
| Local tradie (one location, a few services) |
$800 to $2,000 |
Google Business Profile, five to ten service and suburb pages, reviews, local citations |
| Multi-location builder or supplier |
$2,000 to $5,000 |
Several profiles, location and project pages, monthly content, technical SEO, link building |
| Civil contractor or commercial builder |
$3,000 to $8,000+ |
Procurement-focused content, capability pages, case studies, authority links, AI search visibility |
Ranges are indicative for 2026 and exclude GST. Always compare scope, not just price.
What should be included at each price level?
A fair SEO quote lists deliverables you can check, not just "ongoing optimisation". At a minimum, every package should cover:
- Technical health. Site speed, mobile usability, indexing, broken links and structured data.
- Service and location pages. New or improved pages for the work you want and the areas you cover.
- Google Business Profile management. Categories, services, photos, posts and review responses.
- Content. Project pages, cost guides and FAQs that answer what buyers search for.
- Authority building. Industry directories, supplier and association links, and local media mentions.
- Reporting that ties to leads. Calls, forms and quote requests, not just rankings.
Higher tiers add more pages and content each month, more locations, more link building and, increasingly, work to make sure AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews describe and recommend your business correctly. At Constructiv Digital, answer engine optimisation (AEO) is now built into our SEO work: answer-first page structure, FAQ schema and consistent business details across the web.
What do SEO audits and setup cost?
Many agencies charge a one-off fee before monthly work begins. Typical 2026 ranges are:
- Basic SEO audit: $500 to $1,500 for a small trade website.
- Comprehensive audit and strategy: $1,500 to $3,000 for builders and contractors with larger sites.
- Setup or onboarding: $500 to $2,500, covering tracking, Google Business Profile clean-up and keyword mapping.
If your website itself is the problem, a rebuild may be better value than months of SEO on a weak site. Our construction website cost guide covers what a new site costs.
Does SEO cost more in capital cities than regional areas?
Usually, yes, because competition sets the workload. Ranking a builder in inner Sydney or Melbourne takes more content and links than ranking a builder in Toowoomba, Ballarat or Darwin. Regional and smaller-capital businesses can often get strong results at the lower end of each band.
The agency's location matters less. A specialist agency in another city can rank you locally, as long as it understands your service areas, local regulations and how your buyers search.
What contract terms should you expect?
Most construction SEO is sold as a monthly retainer. Common terms are:
- Month-to-month. Most flexible; you can leave with notice, often 30 days.
- Minimum term of three to six months. Reasonable, because SEO needs time to show results.
- Twelve-month lock-in. Be cautious. Check the exit terms and what happens to your content if you leave.
Make sure you own your website, content, Google Business Profile and analytics accounts. The ACCC's guidance on unfair contract terms is worth reading before you sign a long agreement.
What are the red flags in cheap SEO packages?
SEO under about $500 a month rarely covers the work a construction business needs. Watch for these warning signs:
- Guaranteed rankings. No one controls Google. Guarantees usually mean obscure keywords no one searches.
- No list of deliverables. If you can't see what's done each month, it probably isn't much.
- Bulk link packages. Hundreds of cheap links can damage your site.
- Reports with rankings only. Traffic and rankings mean little without calls and quote requests.
- No construction knowledge. If they don't know the difference between wet hire and dry hire, they'll write the wrong pages.
- Agency-owned accounts. You should own everything.
How do you measure the return on SEO?
Work it out in jobs, not clicks. Track the enquiries that come from organic search and Google Maps, the quotes issued from them and the jobs won.
A simple example: a concreter spends $1,500 a month on SEO. Organic search brings 20 enquiries a month, 25 per cent become quotes, and they win half of those. That's two or three jobs. If the average job is worth $8,000, SEO is producing roughly $20,000 in monthly revenue from $1,500 of spend, and that compounds as rankings hold.
