Quotes for a construction company website in Australia range from $800 to $40,000 for what sounds, on paper, like the same thing. The reason the range is so wide is that "a website" isn't a product. It's a bundle of decisions about scope, content, platform and who does the work, and most quotes don't make those decisions visible.
This guide sets out what construction website design actually costs in 2026, broken into realistic price bands by scope, what drives the number up or down, the ongoing costs people forget to budget for, and the red flags in a cheap quote. It's written for builders, civil contractors and trade businesses, so the examples reflect what those businesses actually need a website to do.

Construction website price bands in 2026
"How much does a website cost Australia" attracts around 70 searches a month and most of the answers are written by agencies quoting their own price list. The bands below are what we see across the construction market, from DIY through to agency builds, with what you typically get at each level.
| Price band |
What you typically get |
Suits |
| $0 to $1,500 (DIY or template) |
Template on a builder platform, 3 to 5 pages, your own copy and photos, no SEO structure |
Sole traders starting out who need a presence, not leads |
| $2,500 to $6,000 (small business build) |
5 to 10 pages, semi-custom design, basic on-page SEO, contact forms, some copywriting |
Trade businesses and small builders in low-competition areas |
| $7,000 to $15,000 (lead generation build) |
15 to 30 pages, custom design, dedicated service and location pages, project pages, professional copy, SEO structure, tracking |
Most established builders, trades and civil contractors who want the site to generate enquiry |
| $15,000 to $40,000 (complex or multi-division) |
30-plus pages, multiple divisions or brands, capability statement integration, tender portal content, custom functionality, extensive content production |
Mid-sized civil, commercial and engineering firms; multi-region businesses |
| $40,000-plus |
Enterprise builds with custom systems, integrations and large content programmes |
Large contractors and groups; rarely justified for SMEs |
The sweet spot for most small to medium construction businesses is the $7,000 to $15,000 band. Below it, the site usually can't rank or convert well enough to pay for itself. Above it, you're paying for complexity most businesses don't need.
What drives the cost up or down
Five things move a construction website quote more than anything else:
- Page count and structure. A site with dedicated pages for each service, each region and each significant project has three to five times the pages of a brochure site, and each page needs design, copy and optimisation.
- Content production. Who writes the copy, sources or shoots the photos, and produces the project stories? This is the largest hidden variable, covered in the next section.
- Design approach. Template with brand colours applied, semi-custom, or fully custom. Fully custom rarely pays for itself in construction; a well-executed semi-custom design on a solid platform usually converts just as well.
- Platform. Some platforms are quicker to build on and cheaper to maintain; others require developer time for every change. This affects both the build and the ongoing cost.
- Integrations and functionality. Quote calculators, booking systems, CRM connections, tender document libraries and client portals all add cost. Most construction sites need a good quote form and click-to-call, not a portal.
Content: the cost nobody quotes properly
Most web design quotes assume you'll supply the content. For a construction business that's a problem, because content is the part that makes the site rank and convert, and almost nobody has it ready. What actually needs producing:
- Service page copy for each service, written for the client rather than a peer, with local references and licence details.
- Location page copy with genuine regional detail, not swapped suburb names.
- Project stories with scope, location, challenge and outcome for six to twelve projects.
- Photography of real projects and real people. Stock imagery on a construction website undermines trust immediately.
- Team profiles with credentials.
- Compliance content : licences, insurances, certifications, safety systems.
Professionally written and photographed, that content typically costs $2,000 to $8,000 on top of a design and build quote. Agencies that specialise in construction usually bundle it; generalist agencies often leave it out, which is one reason their quotes look cheaper. Our content services exist because this is where construction websites most often stall.
Ongoing costs to budget for
A website isn't a one-off purchase. Realistic ongoing costs in 2026:
- Hosting and platform: $20 to $100 a month depending on platform and traffic.
- Domain: $20 to $40 a year for a .com.au.
- Maintenance and security updates: $50 to $300 a month, less on managed platforms.
- Content updates: adding project pages, updating team and certifications. Either your time or $100 to $500 a month.
- SEO: if you want the site to rank and keep ranking, $1,000 to $4,000 a month for a construction business, depending on market and ambition. See our SEO service for what that covers.
The build is often the smaller number over three years. Budget for the whole picture.
Red flags in a cheap quote
A low quote isn't always a bad quote, but these signs usually mean you'll pay more later:
- No mention of content. If the quote assumes you'll write everything, the real cost hasn't been stated.
- A fixed page count of five or fewer. A construction site that can rank needs service, location and project pages. Five pages can't do that.
- You don't own the site. Proprietary platforms or agency-held accounts mean leaving costs you everything. Ask directly who owns the domain, hosting and files.
- No tracking or analytics set-up. A site without call and form tracking can't tell you whether it's working.
- Stock imagery as standard. Buyers spot it and discount everything else.
- No conversation about your services or service area. If the designer hasn't asked what you do and where, they're selling a template.
- Lock-in contracts for maintenance. A reasonable monthly fee is fine. Twelve-month lock-ins with high exit costs are not.
What a construction website needs to earn its cost back
A $10,000 website that generates two extra jobs a year has paid for itself many times over for most construction businesses. To do that it needs:
- Fast load times on mobile, because most construction searches happen on a phone.
- Dedicated service and location pages that can rank.
- Real project pages that prove capability.
- Licence numbers, insurances and certifications visible, checked against the relevant regulator (for example the QBCC in Queensland).
- Click-to-call and a short quote form that captures budget and suburb.
- Call and form tracking so you know what the site produced.
You can see what that looks like in practice in our case studies, and our earlier article on what a construction website should cost covers the value side in more detail.
How to brief a web designer so quotes are comparable
Most of the confusion in website pricing comes from designers quoting different things. Give every designer the same brief and the quotes become comparable:
- List your services, one per line.
- List the suburbs or regions you want to target.
- Say how many projects you can supply photos and detail for.
- State who is writing the copy, and if it's them, how many pages.
- List any functionality you need beyond forms and click-to-call.
- Ask what's included for tracking, SEO set-up and ownership.
- Ask for the ongoing monthly cost separately from the build.
With that brief, a $4,000 quote and a $12,000 quote will show you clearly what the difference buys. Without it, you're comparing guesses.
